What is KeyportID lost and found service?
Have you been in the unfortunate position of standing around helplessly pulling everything out of your pockets and patting yourself down yelling, "Where are my keys? I can't find my keys!" often followed by multiple expletives? Rest assured, you are not alone. KeyportID is here to help. KeyportID and KeyportID EDC are part of an exclusive lost and found service that uses EDC finder tags (via engraved serial numbers or stickers) along with proprietary messaging technology to help recover lost items efficiently.
Every year, millions of keys and other valuables are lost with little chance of ever being recovered by their owners. Keyport is helping to change that with its KeyportID Lost and Found Service.
To solve the #1 problem associated with keys and other daily carry items… losing them 😢, Keyport has developed an incentivized lost and found program in partnership with our friends at Keyfetch that assists customers in the recovery of lost Keyport devices as well as all of their other everyday carry - wallet, phone, tablet, computer, hard drive, airpod case, camera, backpack, and pretty much anything else that has the potential to get lost or stolen. KeyportID EDC finder tag stickers are strong and water resistant, but we do not recommend adding them to items that are constantly getting wet like a dishwasher safe mug or a surfboard. Other than that, they will protect your favorite EDC for quite a long time.
Keyport ID Success story
Here is one example of a Keyport Lost & Found success story. A friend of a Keyport employee texted him and said he may have lost his Keyport in a San Diego cab. Two hours later a cab driver called our customer support line saying he found a Keyport in his cab. Within ten minutes of his call, the Keyport was returned! The proud Keyport owner was so happy, he made this graphic for us.
KEYPORTID - EXCLUSIVE LOST & FOUND FOR KEYPORT KEY ORGANIZERS
Often referred to as a keychain to not lose keys, every Keyport key organizer comes with a FREE two-year subscription to our exclusive KeyportID lost & found service.
Each Keyport Pivot and Keyport Slide includes a serial number which acts as its KeyportID along with a discrete Reward if Found > mykeyport.com/id inscribed on the chassis.
Once registered at keyportid.com, anyone who finds your Keyport key organizer keychain, if it gets lost, can contact you directly through the KeyportID interface (anonymously on both sides) to coordinate its quick and safe return. Keyport even offers a reward to thank the finder on our customer's behalf.
Oftentimes, Keyport owners are notified before they even know their Keyport is missing.
KEYPORTID EDC - FINDER TAG STICKERS FOR ALL YOUR EVERYDAY CARRY
In addition to protecting our customers' key organizers with KeyportID, we have expanded the program to cover virtually ALL of their everyday carry items using finder tags. Introducing KeyportID EDC.
KeyportID EDC utilizes our exclusive, patented lost and found technology that connects owners and finders directly and anonymously at a click…no middle man, no number to call. You simply add one of the four heavy duty KeyportID EDC finder stickers to your favorite personal items. Good samaritans will do the rest.
How KeyportID lost and found works
As soon as you get your Keyport Pivot or Slide, the first thing you do even before showing it off to friends and family is to register it with KeyportID. We cannot stress how important this step is. If you do not register your serial number with KeyportID, there is no way for a finder to get in touch with you. KeyportID lost and found service is very easy to set up and activate. To return a Keyport Slide V.01 and Slide 2.0 (which were created prior to KeyportID) or to report one missing, please contact support at (855) KEYPORT (539-7678) x1 or email us at support@mykeyport.com. We will do our best to facilitate a return or at least to hold onto the item in hopes that the customer contacts us to find it. For all other Keyport key organizers (Pivot 1.0, Pivot 2.0, Slide 3.0, Slide 4.0) or for KeyportID EDC:
Locate Your KeyportID Serial Number
For Keyport Pivot owners, you can find your serial number on the inside of your Pivot's chassis. The serial number acts as your KeyportID.
For Keyport Slide owners, you can find your serial number on the exterior of your Slide's chassis.
For KeyportID EDC, your KeyportID number is listed right on the stickers.
This step is critical. You must register your serial number in order to tie it to your KeyportID account. KeyportID will not work if the serial number is not connected to your KeyportID account.
Visit keyportid.com to set up your account and to activate your KeyportID. You can activate multiple KeyportIDs on one account.
Please note that your KeyportID account is separate from your Keyport account in the Keyport Online Store.
Relax… You’re Protected. If you just registered the KeyportID keychain tag for your Slide or Pivot, then sit back and relax. You're all set. That's it. Try not to misplace your Keyport :)
For those of you with KeyportID EDC, add the finder stickers to your four favorite EDC Items, and you, too, are all set.
Keyportid Frequently Asked Questions
Over the years, we have assisted in the recovery of hundreds of Keyports, saving our customers the pain and high cost of having to rekey locks, purchase expensive new key fobs, and purchase all of the other items they had previously attached to their bulky keychains.
If you lose your traditional keychain without KeyportID and without any identifying information, the chances of getting your keys back in a timely manner... or at all for that matter... are very slim. KeyportID laser engraved lost and found key tags significantly increases that probability without giving away your anonymity.
Similarly, KeyportID EDC finder stickers give your personal items a chance of being recovered if you ever misplace them.
Unlike other key finder services such as Boomerang Tag, you will not have to wait up to a week with the hope of receiving your keys back in the mail, which is not much value because at that point, you will have already had to spend the time and money to replace your keys and all the rest of the items on your keychain.
Unlike Bluetooth, KeyportID is not electronic, so it works anywhere, anytime. It doesn't require wifi, Bluetooth connectivity, or a mesh network, and it won't drain your phone's battery. Compare that to the cost of a Bluetooth tracker... or the cost of replacing all your keys and re-keying your locks if you ever lose your keychain. Losing your keys could easily cost $500!
No, we are unable to register your Keyport for you. So, it is your responsibility to register your Keyport at KeyportID.com. If you do not register your Keyport with KeyportID and someone finds it, he or she will have no way of contacting you to return it.
Powered by Keyfetch, KeyportID lost & found service uses patented messaging technology to connect owners and finders directly and anonymously. So, with KeyportID finder tags, there is no middleman or time wasted shipping the keys in the mail to a lost & found box.
KeyportID utilizes a patented messaging technology that does not disclose any personal information about the owner or the finder. We (meaning Keyport) do ask for the finder’s email in order to coordinate their thank you reward once the finder has recovered his or her property, but that stays entirely between us
KeyportID is very different than a Bluetooth key finder in that KeyportID keychain id tags come laser engraved on your Keyport key organizer, and it works anywhere, anytime. Because KeyportID is not electronic, it doesn't require WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity, or a mesh network, and it won't drain your phone's battery.
KeyportID lost & found for your keys is much less expensive than a traditional Bluetooth fob locator since the first two years are free, and the cost is only $4.99 for each year thereafter. Compare that to the cost of Bluetooth key finder products or the cost of replacing all your keys and re-keying your locks if you ever lose your keys. Typical Bluetooth key finders cost approximately $25 each while Apple Air Tags are $29 each. This doesn't include replacement batteries which are an additional cost. Replacing your keys can be very expensive as a locksmith truck roll is at least $150, and we have heard of re-keys as high as $500 depending upon the complexity of the job. This doesn't include your auto fob, which can be anywhere from $150 - $500 by itself. For example, a 2008 Honda Pilot key is about $180 to replace at the dealership.
KeyportID finder tags are also very cost effective at 4 finder stickers for only $7.99 per year. That equates to protecting each of your four devices for around $2 each for a full year.
KeyportID EDC finder tag stickers are strong and water resistant, but we do not recommend adding them to items that are constantly getting wet like a dishwasher safe mug or a surfboard. Other than that, they will protect your favorite EDC for quite a long time.
Now, if you misplace your Keyport and think that you may have left it somewhere outside the home, you simply log into your KeyportID account and report your Keyport lost at the click of a button. You can even leave a message for the Finder like this:
When someone finds your lost Keyport, they will be able to contact you directly and anonymously via the KeyportID website. You will be able to have a private conversation to facilitate the safe return of your property.
Along with your undying gratitude, you can provide the Finder with a reward like a Keyport gift certificate, which we are happy to coordinate for you. In addition, the Finder also receives a little thank you from us for taking care of our customer, for being a good samaritan, and for generally making the world a better place.
KeyportID for the Pivot and Slide is FREE for the first two years. Make sure to take advantage of that as it is a huge benefit that Keyport key organizers have over ALL other keychains, key organizers, key holders, and key cases.
Don't worry, once your two years are up, the annual subscription to keep your KeyportID service current (which we highly recommend) can then be renewed annually for just $4.99, less than the cost of one Starbucks coffee per year. We do offer a discount for multiple years. Compare that to the cost of a Bluetooth tracker... or the cost of replacing all your keys, including that very expensive auto fob, and then re-keying all your locks if you ever lose your keychain.
KeyportID EDC costs just $7.99 for one year and covers 4 items with the same number, less than the price of one Dunkin Donuts coffee for each item covered. We offer a discount for multiple years on this as well.
We highly encourage you to keep your KeyportID lost and found service current as the cost is very minimal compared to the aggravation and high cost of losing your keys or other personal items forever.
In the case that your KeyportID has expired and someone happens to find your property and try to return it, they will be unable to contact you directly.
We will send you an email letting you know that someone is trying to get a hold of you but that your KeyportID has expired, and we will give you a chance to renew it. The cost for renewing your KeyportID (when expired and someone is trying to contact you) for one year will be $12.99, and the cost for a one-year renewal of KeyportID EDC will be $19.99.
Why the extra cost? When your KeyportID has expired and someone is trying to utilize the service, we have to charge a little extra to maintain the integrity of the system. Otherwise, no one would purchase KeyportID finder tags up front; they would only purchase it only in the event one of their items was recovered. As a result, we wouldn't be able to afford the costs of running this kind of advanced lost & found program.
Again, to avoid any interruption in service, we highly recommend that you keep your KeyportID lost and found finder tags active by renewing for the modest annual fee in advance of your KeyportID's expiration date. Just ask anyone who has ever gone through the pain of losing their keys and having to replace them whether or not it is worth it.
Once the owner has successfully received his or her property back, we provide the finder with a Keyport gift card that is typically enough to get themselves a Keyport. The amount does fluctuate as the owner has the option to provide an additional reward on top of the amount Keyport provides.
