The Design

The graphic runs the full width of the plate: the red-yellow-red bands of la Rojigualda, with the national coat of arms set hoist-side on the gold band, right where it sits on the flag itself. The Pillars of Hercules flank the quartered shield of Castile, León, Aragón, and Navarre, with the pomegranate of Granada at its base. It is the flag as it actually flies, not a stylized approximation.

About the Flag of Spain

The Pillars of Hercules on the coat of arms carry the motto Plus Ultra, "further beyond." It was Spain's answer to the ancient warning Non Plus Ultra ("nothing further beyond") that supposedly marked the edge of the known world at the Strait of Gibraltar. When Spain reached the Americas, the country struck the "non" from the phrase.

The red-and-gold naval ensign was adopted in 1785 under King Charles III, chosen because it stayed visible at long distance at sea, where the common all-white naval flags of the era blurred into the horizon and got confused with those of other nations. That ensign became the basis for the national flag Spain flies today.

The pomegranate at the base of the shield stands for the Kingdom of Granada, the last territory of the Reconquista. In Spanish, the word for the city, the kingdom, and the fruit is the same: granada.

How do I attach and remove a Faceplate Scale?
To attach: align the Faceplate with the chassis and press until it clicks into place. No screws or tools required. To remove: depress the center dimple with a paperclip, pen tip, or the Keyport Module Removal Tool (MRT), then slide the Faceplate backward and lift it off. The MRT is the cleanest method and is especially helpful for both Pivot setup and quick removal of modules or Faceplates.

How durable is the graphic?
Highly durable. The graphic is printed on the outside of a polycarbonate shell in UV-hardened ink and cured under ultraviolet light. The polycarbonate shell is staked to a stainless spring steel backing. The ink does not peel, fade, or scratch off with daily pocket carry.

Can I run different Faceplates on each side of my chassis?
Yes. Keyport chassis accept Faceplates on both sides independently. Many buyers run a flag Faceplate on one side and a design Faceplate (Folds of Honor, DEF CON, Yubico) on the other.
